Part of the Yeni Makam Seriesof new works music based on Middle Eastern folk and classical music. Ancient Middle Eastern modes (makam) and western compositional thought merge together in this unusual and challenging work for solo violin. Two quick-moving movements, Cayir Cimen Geze Gezen'den and Karadeniz Turkusun'den are based on Turku, a general class of Turkish folk songs. The pensive Saba-Saba and Dik Rast Dik Zirgule are inventions on makams of Turkish classical music, the music of the Whirling Dervishes and the Ottoman Court. For advanced players.
